Cold nights return
As snow falls again over much of the UK in the latest cold snap, homeless people on the streets are facing a really tough time. Paradoxically, some of the cold weather shelters that provided a respite from the freezing weather in January aren't open at the moment, and won't now open unless the cold spell is prolonged.
The Emmaus Coldest Nights campaign aims to raise awareness of the stark facts about life on the streets and highlights the dramatic difference - 32 years - in the average life expectancy of a homeless person, compared to the average for men.
During 'Poverty and Homelessness Action Week' (30th Jan - 7th Feb) adverts will again appear in the national press, encouraging people to support Emmaus in their aim to open more Communities.
Emmaus Communities don't just offer a shelter, but a home and work in a supportive environment.
