Emmaus Bolton Companion safely home after ordeal in the cold.
Harry Dixon had been volunteering at Crisis at Christmas but ended up in hospital after being attacked with a bottle on New Year’s Eve. His own clothes were taken away for forensic tests and although the hospital was able to find Harry a shirt, jumper, a thin jacket, and shoes, they couldn’t find trousers to fit, or socks so he left dressed in his hospital pyjamas.
Harry says that the hospital did their best to find him clothes and paid for his taxi to a local day centre, but the day centre was closed when he arrived and it was the police who organised his transport back to Bolton. He got very cold waiting 12 hours in pyjama bottoms at Victoria for the bus back to Bolton, and was embarrassed by people staring at him.
Terry Waite, President of Emmaus UK, has written to Harry, and Tim Page, Director of Emmaus UK, has expressed his grave concern about what happened.
The story of Harry's ordeal was covered by a number of papers including The London Evening Standard, Manchester Evening News and Bolton News. See his TV interview with Channel M here.
