Emmaus Coventry & Warwickshire welcome the Duchess of Cornwall
Emmaus Coventry & Warwickshire rounded off an eventful year with a visit from the Duchess of Cornwall, Emmaus' royal patron.
Emmaus Coventry reopened earlier in 2009 following a period of closure to complete repairs to the building. Now 15 previously homeless and unemployed people live and work in what was an old vicarage in the Binley area of the city. They take it in turns to work in their shop, cook in the Community building and look after the allotment.
The Duchess of Cornwall met staff and supporters of the charity including volunteers from Barclays Bank and Rolls Royce. Her Royal Highness then had tea with the residents and helped them to decorate their Christmas tree.
Vicki Urch General Manager of Emmaus Coventry says, “It was absolutely wonderful to have a visit from The Duchess of Cornwall. She had a good look round the Community and asked about the work that we do here. Best of all she spent a long time with our residents talking to them and sharing a cup of tea. We were all really impressed by her warmth and her interest."
