Journey's End - The Emmaus Pathfinder project finds its way H.O.M.E

As the Pathfinder project to promote Emmaus in the USA nears its end, Jane and Paul Bain can look back on the experiences of the past 3 months: around 35 official meetings with organisations that work with homeless and vulnerable people and countless unofficial encounters with people in coffee shops, restaurants, churches, and on buses and trains. And about 8000 miles of driving!

The final destination for the Pathfinder project was the Emmaus H.O.M.E Community in Maine which has a longstanding relationship with Emmaus Cambridge in the UK, where Jane and Paul were Community Leaders for 17 years.

The St Francis farmhouse, pictured above, is a very rural, warm, welcoming home for about 20 people who were formerly homeless or imprisoned, refugees and two or three people with learning disabilities. H.O.M.E - Homeworkers Organised for More Employment - runs a thrift shop, a food pantry, a nightshelter and they have a land covenanting trust on 600 acres of land which builds low cost homes for homeless people and families.

Paul and Jane are now back in the UK, reflecting on what they have learned about the challenges and issues facing homeless people in the USA and the organisations that seek to support them. From 14th December, Paul takes on his new role as Relief Community Leader for Emmaus in the UK.
