Sadness at death of "irrepressible" Emmaus pioneer
The Emmaus Movement around the world has been shocked and saddened at the sudden death of Charlie Jordan, a passionate Emmaus activist on a local, national and international level.
A founder Trustee of Emmaus Brighton and Hove, Charlie had taken on a wide range of roles within the Emmaus Movement for over 10 years and had most recently been a key supporter of the Hastings and Rother Group, due to open soon.
Emmaus UK President, Terry Waite, says:
"One has an unlimited choice of adjectives when attempting to describe this remarkable man but perhaps 'irrepressible' sums him up best of all...His name will be long remembered in Emmaus and the spirit of social commitment which he so ably demonstrated will continue to inspire those who take up where he left off."
As well as working for many years as an Emmaus volunteer and Trustee in the UK, Charlie was a passionate advocate of greater involvement with the International Emmaus Movement.
Emmaus International President, Jean Rousseau, says:
"The Emmaus movement has suddenly lost one of its most committed activists and for many of us an amazing friend....We will remember a jovial and warm man, an insatiable and unrelenting debater, an ever alert thinker and a man of action."
