Harry Enfield helps out at Emmaus Brighton and Hove

Emmaus supporter and comedian Harry Enfield chatted with customers, staff and Companions at Emmaus Brighton when he visited on 3rd June and worked behind the counter in the Community's second hand shop. Unlike the shop 'I saw You Coming', which featured in Harry's recent TV series, Emmaus shops sell competitively priced quality furniture and bric a brac, not overpriced antiques of dubious origin!

Harry said,“I think Emmaus is a really good idea. It gives people the opportunity to work for themselves and others. It doesn’t just provide a temporary, sticking plaster solution to homelessness, but offers real and lasting change.”

Harry spent over two hours at Emmaus Brighton, taking the opportunity to learn more about how Emmaus Communities support themselves by collecting, refurbishing and reselling donated household goods. His stint behind the counter was followed by an interview with BBC South Today and a visit to the Emmaus Brighton cafe, where customers can admire the current colourful exhibition while having a break from bargain hunting.
