Emmaus shop kicks off in Rugby

The 26th Emmaus shop in the UK opened in Rugby on 30th March. Patient customers queued outside, eager for the chance to browse and find a bargain. Within 2 minutes of opening the doors, the first sofa was sold!

Emmaus shops sell good quality household goods and furniture, donated by local people. Shop manager Jane O'Meara said, "The shop will help people furnish their homes on a budget, and reduce the amount of quality furniture heading for local landfill. There is a real need to reuse and recycle, and Emmaus Rugby will offer the chance for people to do just that - and help vulnerable homeless people too."

Profits from the Emmaus Rugby shop will help achieve the long term aim of establishing an Emmaus Community in the area. Chair of Emmaus Rugby, Liz Parvin, said, “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to open this shop in such an excellent position in the town. We hope that it will help the people of Rugby to learn about the work of Emmaus, as well as providing us with an income to help us work towards having a Community."

The Emmaus Communities in Coventry and Carlton are kindly supporting the Emmaus Rugby shop in the initial stages by donating stock from their own shops but donations from local residents are coming in thick and fast.
