President and MP Launch Cambridge University Research

On the 9th September Terry Waite, President of Emmaus and David Howarth MP for Cambridge, launched "Sharing in Success" a research project conducted by Cambridge University.

The research, which was led by Professor Christine Whitehead, revealed that each Emmaus Community can save over £800,000 per year in public spending. It also illustrates that Emmaus Communities provide a unique and successful approach to homlessness and offer huge benefits both to those living in Communities and to the wider community.

During his introduction David Howarth made special mention of the fact that Emmaus puts work at the heart of its approach. He said:

"Emmaus not only helps individuals, but helps the whole of society as well."

Terry Waite talked about the fact that much of the work of Emmaus is difficult to measure, but that this research was a way of communicating its effectiveness.

There is a summary of the research below.
