Paris, here we come!
On 22 June 2008, Emmaus vans from all over Europe will converge on Paris laden with furniture, art, and bric-a-brac.
Why? They are bound for the Paris Expo for the 9th annual Paris Salon.
Organised by Emmaus France, the Paris Salon is like a huge one day flea market which raises funds for the Solidarity programmes run by Emmaus International.
An eagerly anticipated event in the Paris calendar, the Salon attracted 26 000 visitors last year and took over half a million Euros. All profits went to the Nokoue Water Project in Benin. This project aims to provide safe drinking water for the inhabitants of the area whilst empowering them by handing them planning and decision making powers.
The Nokoue project was the focus for Emmaus International on World Water Day earlier this year.
Reflecting on last year's Salon, Christophe Deltombe, President of Emmaus France described the stands as being "amazing in terms of their design, their inventive presentation and the postive themes chosen. A real pleasure to behold!"
This year, 2 vans from the Emmaus UK Federation will make the journey, together with Companions, staff and volunteers from UK Communities and Groups. A new item this year will be paintings by the Art Group which meets at Emmaus Mossley.
If you happen to be in Paris on 22 June, why not go along, sample the atmosphere for yourself and maybe find yourself a bargain. The Parc Expo is at Porte de Versailles.
