Sweat, tears and success for Emmaus runners
Nine brave men and women ran 26 gruelling miles for Emmaus in this year’s London Marathon. So far they have raised a fantastic £17,000… and counting!
Clayton Cutter, Lisa Reading, Jade Reading-Bowler, Tania Unsworth, David Thaler, Jim Gilbourne, Sarah Graham, Danielle Walker-Palmour and Simon Williams were all among the 34,000 London Marathon runners to complete the race.
Cousins Lisa and Jade, who had trained together, crossed the finishing line hand in hand. “It’s a funny feeling really,” explained Lisa, “pleased, proud, tired, relieved and a little disappointed that it’s all over.”
Thanking her sponsors for their generosity, Jade shared her excitement. “It’s a fantastic amount of money to have raised for Emmaus, and to know that it will be used to help actually change someone’s life for the better is amazing!”
The money raised will help Emmaus to establish new Communities for formerly homeless people and to develop resources within the existing ones. Runners chose how to allocate their sponsorship money. Sarah and Jim, who volunteer for Emmaus Medway, opted to support this Group, whilst Clayton, a Companion at Emmaus Leeds, donated to his Community as well as Emmaus UK.
Congratulations to the runners for all their determination and hard work!
