Fantastic opportunity to take part in Emmaus Summer Camps!
In 2007, 420 young people from different countries participated in the Emmaus Summer Volunteer Programme, sharing in the life of 23 different Emmaus Communities. In 2008, there are opportunities in France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Bosnia and Finland.
The Summer Camps are open to anyone aged 18 or over. Volunteers work alongside staff and Companions in the Communities, contributing to the business of collecting, refurbishing and selling donated goods. Once there, all accommodation and meals are provided, but participants need to cover their travel costs to and from the Community.
Anna Brooke, a volunteer in 2007, was enthusiastic about her taste of life in an Emmaus Community: "It was eye opening to see how I could get to know people as people, before knowing anything about their background. When I learnt a little about their past, it brought back to me how the events that have altered their lives can happen to anyone and turn anyone’s life upside-down. It seemed to me that the Community was providing what most of the Companions really wanted - a place you choose to be but are free to move on from, with work, companionship, a relatively calm life - and perfect weather!"
