On the Road for Emmaus
A member of the Emmaus steering group in Salford is doing the epic walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for Emmaus. His challenge starts on April 1st because of the longer hours of daylight (and it's a memorable date!) and he will spend about 9 weeks on the road.
Ian Orrell recently joined the group of people in Salford who are working to establish a local Emmaus Community. Their aim is to create a home for formerly homeless people, where they can live and work together in a supportive community environment.
Many Companions, as Emmaus residents are known, discover a new sense of hope and purpose from their time living in a Community. As one Companion put it, “For the first time in my life I’m starting to find my way.”
Hopefully, Ian’s journey across Britain will help to create an Emmaus Community in Salford.
“Emmaus is not an easy option,” explains Ian, “it is about offering people the tools to make positive changes in their lives. I’d like my efforts to contribute towards offering those tools to more homeless men and women.”
