Emmaus Liverpool welcomes new Trustees and a Deputy

Emmaus Liverpool welcomes three new trustees and appoints a Deputy Chair to the group this year - all four have the common goal of creating a new Community in the Merseyside area.

The new team bring a wealth of additional skills and knowledge to a board which already exists of Trustees, Graham Parker (Chair), Ann Milling MBE, Daniel Brawn and Rob Toomey who have experience in local housing, social work construction law and commerce.

Ann, who has been a Trustee with Emmaus Liverpool since its beginning in 2004, has agreed to become the group’s new Deputy Chair. Ann had a career in social work specializing in the fields of drug addiction and mental health. She was the founder and chairperson of Shado, a charity that worked with families suffering from the effects of having family members addicted to drugs.

Jeanette Threadgold decided to become a trustee of Emmaus Liverpool after witnessing first hand how the charity transforms homeless people’s lives. She has spent time working at the UK’s first community, Emmaus Cambridge, where she wrote and designed their 10th anniversary newsletter. Jeanette has also been Community Liaison Officer for the charity's national development office, Emmaus UK.

Chartered Accountant, Craig Russell brings over 30 years of financial planning and control skills to the board of trustees plus a well rounded business management acumen. For the last 15 years Craig has been group finance director for Nightfreight PLC, a public company which was de-listed and taken private in 2001. Craig who is more than happy to be a trustee of Emmaus Liverpool says: “I strongly believe in helping fellow human beings and particularly those who can help themselves given the right encouragement and support.”

Canon Neville Black MBE retired in 2004 after 40 years parish ministry in Everton and Toxteth, where he fully involved himself in the different aspects of community and diocesan life. Neville’s wealth of trustee and community experience has included over 20 years as a part time hospital chaplain at the Liverpool Maternity and Women’s Hospitals and a board member and Chairman for both Liverpool YMCA (the main provider of support for the city’s homeless) and the Liverpool Housing Trust.

Emmaus Liverpool is also fortunate to have the help of Nigel Mellor and Marie Mckee. Marie has kindly agreed to become our secretary responsible for taking minutes at our monthly meetings. Nigel’s housing knowledge has been vital to the group in its search for a property. Before Nigel retired in 2000, he worked as a Town Planner with Derbyshire County Council and Liverpool City Council. Whilst working at Liverpool City Council he became the head of the newly created Community Development Section.
