Emmaus Leeds saves even more household items from landfill

Emmaus Leeds has upped its green credentials further with a new furniture re-use project: Revive Leeds.

Alongside other partners St Vincent de Paul, which provides practical help including free furniture to those in need, and SLATE Furniture Store, they are opening a new shop selling recycled goods on a household waste site. This is a completely new, green initiative for Leeds City Council.

Revive Leeds will be open seven days a week for dropping off commercial and household waste. This will include clothes, household goods, bric-a-brac, small electrical goods and furniture. There will be a workshop, electrical testing, bike repairs and minor repairs to furniture. Keen to avoid any waste, goods that cannot be sold in the shop will be offered to the Leeds Furniture Reuse Group who run shops around the city.

Ali Ward, General Manager at Emmaus Leeds said: “We are looking forward to rescuing many tonnes of items from the rubbish heap - all donated by people stopping off at the shop en route to the skips!”

Emmaus Leeds Companions are currently working hard to promote and paint the shop. They will also be involved in fitting it out and merchandising. Working in it will form a part of their everyday shop rota.

The shop will be officially launched on Wednesday 24th August.

Emmaus shops primarily deal with the collection and selling of donated furniture. This prevents them going to landfill.
