Emmaus is a charity which offers previously homeless people a home, work and the chance to regain self-respect in a supportive community environment. Residents work full time in a Community business, collecting, renovating and re-selling donated furniture through our Community shops. There are currently 15 Emmaus communities across the UK. We are seeking an Environmental Issues Officer to join our committee to work with us to build an Emmaus Community in Salford.
The postholder will analyse local enviromental schemes and policy to show how Emmaus's recycling and reuse activity helps to promote and enable a cleaner, greener environment in the local area. The findings of the research should also advise Emmaus on how best to engage with these agendas.Knowledge of / interest in enviromental issues will be an advantage as is knowledge of the Salford area.
Activities
- Review all relevant schemes and policy in the Salford area relating to improving the enviroment and recycling and reuse
- Engage with organisations to whom mutual benefit with the Emmaus scheme can be derived in relation to environmental issues in order to gain support and build partnerships
- Present information to the Steering Committee regarding how Emmaus meets the local environmental agenda
- Make recommendations as to how Emmaus should promote itself within this agenda
- Make recommendations regarding working in partnership with other organisation on these issues in the future
Time commitment
Hours to suit the postholder - working from home, minimum 5 hours a month, maximum as defined by postholder. Attendance at monthly Steering Group meetings on Mondays 1.30-3.30pm.
