Emmaus is a charity which offers previously homeless people a home, work and the chance to regain self-respect in a supportive community environment. Residents work full time in a Community business, collecting, renovating and re-selling donated furniture through our Community shops. There are currently 15 Emmaus communities across the UK. We are seeking an Ambassador to join our committee to work with us to build an Emmaus Community in Salford.
Activities
- Present the work and ambitions of Emmaus Salford to new audiences
- Help the Emmaus Group to build links, gain supporters and recruit new members through giving presentations
- Feed back to the Steering Group the outcome of all presentations
- Attend Steering Group meetings to ensure you are up to speed on developments
- Visit at least one Emmaus Community but preferably more in order to better understand how Emmaus projects work
Requirements
Experience of public speaking is would be helpful as would a knowledge of Salford and an awareness of local agencies. Established links within the community would be particularly beneficial.
Time commitment
Between 1-4 afternoons / evenings a month depending on frequency of presentations and their audience (as agreed with postholder). One monthly meeting on a Monday 1.30-3.30
