Welcome to Emmaus Ipswich
Emmaus Ipswich comprises of a local group of trustees and other volunteers working to set up an Emmaus Community in the Ipswich area.
Emmaus Ipswich Vision:
Emmaus Ipswich will exist to give: hope through home, dignity through work, building confidence for the future
The Community will provide a home in a supportive environment with access to training and counselling for people who want to move on from homelessness and/or chaotic lifestyles.
Companions, Emmaus’ term for Community members, will also work within a social enterprise, set up by the community.
The social enterprise will support Companion’s in gaining training and financially support the community with the ultimate aim to make the community self-sustaining.
We are currently consulting on a number of models for the social enterprise. In many Emmaus Communities revenue and work is generated through furniture recycling, 2nd hand shops and cafes, we are however, looking at these in addition to a range of businesses suitable and sympathetic to the locality and companions capability.
In addition to accommodation and work, companions will receive food, clothing and a weekly allowance, but for many, the greatest benefit is a fresh start. To join the community, they will sign off unemployment benefits and agree to participate in the life and work of the Community and abide by its rules.
