Emmaus Community starts life from the back of a lorry.
The sun shone on Emmaus Hastings & Rother as the lorry bringing their living accommodation arrived in late January.
The accommodation modules were manufactured in Nottingham by prefabricated building specialists Danzer. Within a day of delivery, they had been assembled into the block that will house 9 Companions and one staff member at the former Southern Water site that Emmaus Hastings & Rother are developing in St Leonards-on-Sea.
Emmaus Hastings & Rother are the first Emmaus Group to adopt the modular building approach and cite ease of expansion and cost as two of the advantages. Their Community will eventually be home to 23 Companions, but their step-by-step approach will allow them to open without waiting for funds to complete the whole project.
Zach Hurst, who has 10 years’ experience in the homelessness and social exclusion sector, will start work as Community Leader on 1st March. The intention is that Emmaus Hastings & Rother will then open its doors in June 2011.
The Emmaus Hastings & Rother shop has been trading very successfully in St Leonards since October 2009, selling donated furniture to raise funds for the Community project. If you would like to donate any unwanted good quality furniture or other household items to Emmaus Hastings & Rother, call them on 01424 755111 or find more contact details here.
