Emmaus Community Shop now open
The Community Shop and Green Roof Café at Emmaus Hampshire’s Bar End site will open to the public on Thursday 7 May. Donations of good quality furniture, clothes, bric-a-brac, books and media are currently arriving from all around Winchester. These are either being delivered by donors or picked up by the Community van which now sports an eye-catching livery.
The twelve Companions already in residence are busy sorting goods and setting up the shop. Some of them already have experience of other Emmaus Shops around the UK and this knowledge is being put to good use. The week before opening will be used to prove systems and sort out routines with the help of a number of local supporters and volunteers. Opening Day on 7 May can then be faced with more confidence.
The opening hours are 9am - 4pm Thursday to Sunday. There is limited parking in front of the Community. Alternatively the adjacent St Catherine’s Park & Ride offers ample overflow parking (free on Sundays).
Emmaus Hampshire is a social enterprise operated by formerly homeless men and women. Good quality furniture and other household goods accepted for re-sale in the shop generate an income to support the Community and others in greater need.
