Now accepting donations of furniture and household goods

A new option is now open to Hampshire residents who want to recycle their good quality, second-hand furniture and household goods.

The Emmaus Community in Winchester is accepting donations of a range of items - from furniture, bric-a-brac and clothes, to books, music and musical instruments. All goods accepted initially will need to be in good condition and ready for re-sale.

The Community, located next to the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Bar End, provides up to 23 formerly homeless people at any one time with a place to live, work and rebuild their lives.

Companions, as residents are known, are offered the training and support they need to play their part in the recycling and reselling of furniture and household goods.

Goods donated by Hampshire residents will be resold through the Emmaus Community Shop which will open to the public in mid-late April. Opening hours will be from Thursday-Sunday from 10am-4pm.

Anyone wanting to donate items should contact the Community on 01962 868300. It is possible to arrange van collection for larger items - a 20-mile radius from Winchester currently applies.

Alison Thompson, Emmaus Hampshire’s Chair of Trustees, said: “We are appealing to people to donate good quality furniture and other household goods so that we can generate an income to support the Community and others in greater need.”

“With the support of the wider community we are confident we will have an interesting array of objects and artefacts on display when we open the doors of our Community Shop and Green Roof Café on 30th April.”
