Wessex Charity Awards: Recognition for Emmaus Hampshire Trustees and Fundraisers
Seen through the trees on a cold winter's day, Emmaus Hampshire's new building in Winchester is nearing completion.
It's sometimes too easy to forget the hard work that's needed to turn a vision into a reality. The vision for a group of people in the 1990s was of an Emmaus Community, built to a highly sustainable standard, in Hampshire. Emmaus Hampshire became a registered charity in Sept 1999. Now they are almost ready to open the doors of their new Community.
In recognition of their hard work in bringing the building stage of the project to completion, the Emmaus Hampshire Board of Trustees and their Fundraising Team have been chosen as finalists in the Wessex Charity Awards 2009. The winning awards will be presented at a gala dinner on 26th February.
And does the hard work stop there? Not a bit of it. The Trustees, staff and volunteers will face new challenges as Emmaus Hampshire becomes a functioning community and business - a home and place of work for formerly homeless people.

Update 26th February: Emmaus Hampshire Fundraisers have won the Wessex Charity Award for best fundraising team. The fundraising committee, led by Mike Cox, have raised £2.5 million towards the capital costs of the building.
