About Us

What We Do

Emmaus Greenwich is a charity for formerly homeless people,
part of the worldwide Emmaus Movement and a member of the
Emmaus UK Federation. The purpose of Emmaus is to provide
housing, employment opportunities, and encouragement for
homeless people in a supportive community.

The community supports itself and provides a public service
by rescuing household goods, restoring their useful life,
and cutting down waste by recycling materials that would
have otherwise been thrown away. Like other Communities,
we run a recycling project collecting donated bric-a-brac,
clothes, furniture and other various appliances. We have a
wood and an electrical workshop for doing minor repairs where
needed and PAT testing for electrical items. These items are
sold in our second-hand shops at affordable prices with the
proceeds going towards making the charity financially self
sustainable.

Emmaus Greenwich gives each Companion (former homeless person)
a place to live in their own room and a small allowance.
Every Companion is required to work at least 40 hours a week for
the community to the best of their ability.
