Local MP supports Emmaus Gloucestershire

Richard Graham, MP for Gloucester, donned an Emmaus Gloucestershire sweatshirt recently for a visit to the Emmaus Gloucestershire secondhand superstore in Chequers Road. Richard, who was elected in the June 2010 election, is a strong supporter of the voluntary sector and is involved with several local charities.

Companions, the people who live and work in Emmaus, were on hand to show Richard round the premises. Richard was very impressed with his visit - he's pictured here with a poster of Abbé Pierre, founder of Emmaus.

In the spirit of Abbé Pierre's guiding principle of 'Solidarity' - the idea that one should 'Serve first those that suffer most' - 10 Companions later battled wind and rain on a 15 mile trek across the Brecon Beacons. Their efforts raised nearly £1000 for Help for Heroes, the charity that supports wounded servicemen and women.
