Emmaus Coventry trustee wins Pride of Coventry Community Award for Volunteer Hero

Phil Highley, trustee and volunteer at Emmaus Coventry, has won the Pride of Coventry and Warwickshire Community Award for Volunteer Hero.

As well as raising £4000 on a sponsored bus trip last year for Emmaus Coventry, and being their volunteer van driver, he drives blind residents to the Waveley Day Centre; helps plan the Kenilworth Festival and the Two Castles Run each year; mentors younger members of the community; and for over 40 years has also helped produce the Kenilworth Gang Show.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, Phil said: "I just carry on and do my best year-on-year, and I have been doing it all my life. I spread myself about a bit. Everything I do I enjoy. I believe that whatever we are good at, we should get out there and do it, to give something back to the community."
