Emmaus Colchester celebrate second birthday in style
Guests braved variable weather earlier this month to help Emmaus Colchester celebrate the second anniversary of opening as a Community. They were taken on a tour of the Community House, shop and warehouse and were joined by Companions at a buffet lunch.
Terry Waite, in his capacity as President of Emmaus, spoke about the work of Emmaus and presented certificates to Companions who have gained qualifications.
Hazel Shaw of Linklaters, presented Emmaus Colchester with a cheque for £6000. She is pictuerd above with, from left to right, Keith Henrick, General Manager, Terry Waite and Richard Spooner, Chair of Emmaus Colchester Trustees.
The event helped raise awareness of the work that Emmaus Colchester does in the local community, providing a home and work for previously homeless and unemployed people who collect and sell donated household goods.
Speaking to BBC Essex, Terry Waite was passionate about his support for Emmaus; "Emmaus does not patronise homeless people. It requires that all those who enter an Emmaus Community must leave State support behind and work according to their capacity. Emmaus was founded over 60 years ago in France and is well tried and tested. It enables people to get back on their feet and regain their dignity as human beings."
A Companion at Emmaus Colchester also gave an interview to BBC Essex which can be heard here.
