Official Opening Launch is a hit
The Emmaus Colchester Community officially opened on October 23rd in a very successful ceremony which 120 guests attended. Our hugely entertaining guest speaker, Selwyn Image, the founder of Emmaus in the UK, stepped in at the last minute to replace Terry Waite who was unable to attend due to illness. Iain Mackechnie-Jarvis, former director of Emmaus UK and current director of the Genesis Housing Group, also spoke at the event.
Musical entertainment was provided by the 'Colchester Summer Singers' who sang a beautiful choral piece, and Companion Tony Sheekey who sang a rousing acapella version of a Lionel Richie song - good practice for his audition for Britain’s Got Talent! The Council launched its Homelessness Strategy at the event, giving the Community great local endorsement.
Guests enjoyed a tour of the Community with Companions acting as tour guides. All were impressed by the quality of the building and the wealth of environmentally friendly features, such as the wood chip boiler.
There have been several positive reports back from guests who attended, thanking Companions, Staff and Trustees for hosting such a warm and friendly event. On the part of Emmaus Colchester, it was a wonderful opportunity to 'show off' our Community, and to let funders and donors see what a great contribution they have made to the local Community.
