Community Staff Appointed as Building Work Nears Completion
Emmaus Burnley have now appointed a Community Leader and two Assistants as the date for welcoming our first Companions draws nearer. Phase 1 of renovation work on Emmaus House is ongoing and the facilities for us to cater for up to eleven Companions will be in place by December 2010. Our first few Companions should be with is in January 2011 as we gradually build up to eleven.
It is hoped that the proposed retail site on Ivy Street can also be secured by January which will allow us to begin trading in earnest; discussions are also underway to keep contractors on site beyond the completion of Phase 1 building works to begin work on phase 2 straight away. This will allow us to increase our capacity from eleven Companions to our full complement of twenty-four (plus move on accomodation for six) during 2011.
The appointment of the new staff has, of course, been crucial in planning for this. Sarah (Community Leader), Steve (Assistant Community Leader - Health & Social Care) and Wes (Assistant Community Leader - Training & Development) are putting policies for Companions in place and familiarising themselves with local agencies in preparation for the Community opening. As part of their training they have also each spent a week shadowing staff at other Emmaus Communities, and further Community visits are planned to ensure they have as extensive a knowledge as possible when Emmaus Burnley opens its doors to Companions.
Emmaus Burnley would like to thank the other Emmaus Communities who have supported us, and continue to do so; their help has been invaluable in helping us reach this stage.
