Terry Waite Visits Emmaus Burnley
After officially opening Emmaus Burnley in March 2009, Terry Waite CBE, President of the Emmaus UK Federation, visited the Group one year on to view its progress.
Since Terry last visited Burnley, project staff have bgun working on our residential site, with renovation work to make it a suitbale home for Companions to begin soon. A second site for retail and training, just five minutes' walk from Emmaus House, has also been identified.
Terry spent the afternoon meeting trustees, finding a bit more about the individuals involved with Emmaus Burnley and recounting his own experience of Emmaus. Terry was also able to present two cheques to Emmaus Burnley; Carol Pike raised over £600 through a sponsored sleepout, while St Peter's Church generously made a £500 donation. Thanks to Carol and everyone who sponsored her and to St Peter's.
Everyone involved in the visit had an enjoyable afternoon, and Emmaus Burnley would like to thank Terry for giving up his time; it is hoped that on the next anniversary of his visit Emmaus Burnley will have made a succesful transition from Emmaus Group to Community.

Emmaus Burnley has also recently received donations from St Bartholomew's Church, Great Harwood and Marsden Building Society; many thanks to them for their generosity.
