Premiere of the "Homeless Voice Project"

On 24th June, two representatives from Emmaus Burnley attended the Reception & Premiere of the "Homeless Voice Project", in the Coppice Theatre at Accrington & Rossendale College (ACCROSS).

Emmaus Burnley are Third Sector Partners in a Health & Homelessness Research Project with East Lancashire Primary Care Trust and the Housing Directorates of Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Borough Councils. The concept of a "Homeless Voice Project" was first mooted there about a year ago.

The Project is an ACCROSS initiative using an Arts/Media approach to engage with homeless people in Accrington and Pennine Lancashire. It encourages them to 'tell their story', offering training in audio and video techniques for recording, presenting and accrediting their work.

On the night, 10 ACCROSS students in association with Hyndburn Borough Council first screened the "Homeless Voice Project", a DVD and training resource produced for schools, colleges and community groups by students who have had a personal experience of homelessness.

Well worth watching, it was a humbling and moving experience.
