People-centred Planning (PCP)

Launched 28th July, AS IF PEOPLE MATTERED is a people-centred Business Plan for Emmaus Burnley, - a plan to serve the most needy first.

Emmaus is about people and their relationships, - social and economic, - equal partners in a social enterprise. "As if people mattered" presents a balanced approach to both, to raise awareness of their essential interplay, in contrast with a more usual financial emphasis.

Recurring key messages aim to embed an in-depth awareness of Emmaus' unique response to the needs of homeless and socially excluded people.

"The work undertaken by Companions in the recycling and retail business is central to the Community's ethos. Not only does most of their income come from trading activities, but trading is also the key to the whole Emmaus concept of Community financial independence. Work has a therapeutic effect in enabling the restoration of the Companions' dignity and self-respect." Our vision for an Emmaus Community in Burnley is an engine for social investment and sustainable development in the Third Sector, where innovative leadership is already stimulating change and bearing fruit, - "as if people mattered".
