Emmaus Bristol shows Christmas community spirit in the "Best community in the UK"

On Thursday 16th December, Staff and Companions from Emmaus Bristol their 5th annual Christmas lunch for the senior citizens of The Dings, the area where Emmaus Bristol is based.

Emmaus Bristol's neighbours enjoyed a three-course Christmas dinner, listened to the choir from the local Hannah Moore School and took part in a no-lose raffle. One Companion played Santa.

As you can see, the guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves, thanks to the efforts of Companions and Staff.

The Dings area of Bristol has been voted "Community of the Year", according to a challenge run by Axa Insurance who were looking to find strong community spirit in towns and villages across the UK.

Speaking to the Bristol Evening Post, Companion Representative and Community Assistant Chris Graham said:

"At first, residents were a little unsure about having formerly homeless people on their doorstep, but they soon became very friendly. We often help out with community events. We get involved with the summer fairs and are a good resource for any voluntary work that needs doing. The people in The Dings are very friendly and it really is a great place to live."
