Overflowing Emmaus support for World Water Day

Emmaus projects globally will celebrate World Water Day on Thursday 20th March.

Emmaus International is defending the right to water for all, with an innovative project in Benin at the heart of its campaign. The organisation is working with local people to provide sustainable access to drinking water for 65,000 inhabitants of Lake Nokoué.

In the UK, Emmaus Leeds recently donated £1, 255 for the Nokoué project, which was raised from sale days and money that Companions gave up from their fund for social activities.

Emmaus Bristol has also been spreading the word about the project to local media and primary schools and will be promoting it at a multicultural feast.

“Emmaus has helped me out of homelessness and, for me, it’s important to give something back”, explains Mike Poole, a Community Assistant at Emmaus Bristol.

“It’s wrong that in this day and age, many people throughout the world have no access to safe drinking water. It’s a human right.”
