Welcome to Emmaus Brighton & Hove
Emmaus Brighton & Hove is the largest Emmaus Community in the UK. We have 40 resident Companions who staff our two shops and café. We are situated in Portslade on the south coast of England 4 miles west of the centre of Brighton.
We are a residential community.
We offer a home and work to 40 men and women, many of whom have been homeless. We have been called 'the charity that works'. If you are thinking of applying to live in our community or would like to help someone else apply then you will find more information including our rules, the work Companions do, and an application form on "our Community page" on our website *www.emmausbrighton.co.uk *
Central to the work of an Emmaus community is helping others. Our founder said 'serve first the one who suffers most'. For more on this aspect of our work see our solidarity page on our website
The work of the Community centers on the recycling and reuse of good quality donated goods including furniture, electrical goods (not gas), bric-a-brac, clothes, books etc. We also sell plants & shrubs grown in our nursery garden along with garden furniture, pots, tools etc.
Our popular cafe is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday serving delicious homemade food.
From our car park there is wheelchair access to our main shop, chapel shop, café, toilets, café patio and garden.
